The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has co-opted DUFUTH into its integrated national disease surveillance and response efforts.

The move is aimed at effective surveillance and report of locally endemic communicable diseases in Nigeria.

To this end, the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu has been duly registered into the NCDC websites, with its clinical staff trained on mechanism for disease surveillance and real-time updates directly to NCDC through a dedicated website.

Similarly, DUFUTH has also been chosen by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the establishment of a Lassa Fever Treatment Centre and Centre for Molecular Testing, in no distant time.

All are targeted at addressing the challenges of public health emergencies and to enhance Nigeria’s preparedness and response to epidemics through prevention, detection and control of communicable diseases.
