The David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital, Uburu has found a partner in Dr Kiran Kumar, Chairman and Head Medicine Department, Thumbay University Hospital, Ajman United Arab Emirates.

Dr Kiran, an experienced Endocrinologist who has worked for many years in the UAE and with experiences from other parts of the world was in DUFUTH on Friday with his team.

The landmark collaboration is in furtherance of the Chief Medical Director's strategic mission to grow DUFUTH into a healthcare operator with global appeal for handling diverse medical issues.

The CMD, Professor Uzoma Agwu who led the visitors on a joint inspection of facilities in various clinical departments said the hospital would largely benefit in the areas of expertise, research and training especially in sub-specialties like Internal Medicine, Oncology and surgery to optimize the overall healthcare outcome at the hospital.

She hinted that the value of the partnership being offered by the expatriate would reflect both in the area of mentorship programmes and supporting of existing healthcare services through training and resource development that will enable DUFUTH to deliver the best medical care.

According to her, the visit was a platform for Dr Kiran who played a pioneering role in the conception of the hospital to, assess the progress made so far and locate the gaps in manpower and equipment for attention.

The Indian-born physician who later spoke to our media team after the tour said he plans to complement the efforts of specialists at DUFUTH with world class medical expertise and resources which could be sourced locally or remotely.

The team earlier had robust engagements with top members of the Management which had the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, Dr Felix Ehidiamhen, the Hospital's Director of Administration and other HODs before proceeding on a visit to the Radiology and Physiotherapy Departments, Main theatres, Haematology Department, ICU, the Oncology centre, among others.
